The purpose of this study is to describe the academic goals of young people in private university training, for this a quantitative methodology with a non-experimental cross-sectional design of descriptive scope was used, the Scale of Academic Goals was applied to a sample of 100 university students. The findings show that for 6 % of young people their main academic goal is social reinforcement, that is, they seek to be praised and not criticized by people; while for 32 % of them their goal is to learn and put their knowledge into practice; and finally, for 62 % of university students, their academic goal is only to get good grades and finish their degree. It is worrying to know that there will be little effort on the part of the students, so they focus more on the result than on how it is done, it is expected that they will not seek the necessary strategies to achieve significant learning, which suggests that they bet on the rote learning, this raises questions about whether the knowledge, skills and attitudes that they are acquiring in their university training will allow them to act with professionalism in the enrichment of science and their professional work.
